A designer posted these custom Aldo sports shoes on Nike Talk recently with a slew of step-by-step photos. The inspiration is a comic book entitled “Sharknife” about a delivery boy who fights sharks within the walls of a Chinese restaurant. An understanding of manga and the source material is not necessary to appreciate the detail on these custom Aldos.
The colorful depiction of Sharknife fighting sharks and monsters in the Guangdong Factory leaps off of the plain toe boxes. The designer lives up to the billing of his Self Made nickname. This is one of the few custom sneakers depicting comics and cartoons that captures my interest. I love the crisp lines, uninhibited color scheme and skill used in transferring Corey Lewis’ work from print to leather.
